This Code of Ethics establishes the level of professionalism and ethical conduct expected of people with ARPAB certification, as well as members of the Board and other ARPAB officials (who may not hold ARPAB certification). References below to ‘ARPAB certified persons’ shall be taken to include Board members.
- ARPAB certified persons shall always actively promote and safeguard the well-being and interests of radiation workers, the public and the environment.
- ARPAB certified persons shall act only in areas of their competence and shall carry out all aspects of their work in a conscientious and professional manner.
- ARPAB certified persons shall respect the confidentiality of information obtained in the course of their professional duties.
- ARPAB certified persons shall continually strive to improve their professional knowledge and skills.
- ARPAB certified persons shall take care to disclose all actual or perceived conflicts of interest, and manage conflicts of interest accordingly.
- If an ARPAB certified person is found to have acted unethically according to an ARPAB sponsoring society, their ARPAB certification will be reviewed by the Board.
- ARPAB certified persons shall be responsible for taking appropriate action in the case of unethical activities of their peers, including the reporting of such conduct to the Australasian Radiation Protection Accreditation Board if concerned.
- ARPAB certified persons shall not make any public statement purporting to be the policy of ARPAB when such is not the case.
- ARPAB certified persons shall work in a collaborative and co-operative manner with other professionals, recognising and respecting their contributions to radiation protection.
- ARPAB certified persons shall ensure that any reports, statements or publications produced by them are an accurate and appropriately attributed record of soundly based and adequately researched work.
- Persons serving on the Australasian Radiation Protection Accreditation Board must take care to ensure the decisions they make in this position remain impartial and transparent.
Breach of the Code of Ethics
- Compliance with this Code of Ethics is a condition of remaining ARPAB certified.
- Any ARPAB certified person who breaches the provisions of this Code of Ethics may have their ARPAB certification revoked.
- Where an ARPAB certified person is alleged to have breached this Code of Ethics, that person shall have an opportunity to explain his/her position to the Australasian Radiation Protection Accreditation Board.
